I did encounter the same recharging problems and ...
Just do what was mentioned below by the other reviewer. Plug in the DVD with the power switch on and watch an entire movie (90+ minutes). After doing this, remove the plug, turn the POWER switch OFF, then start recharging it. Once you do this, it keeps the charge for up to 2+ hours. Also, I noti..

I also had trouble with the first one charging so I sent it back and now the second one won't charge either. What a pain! The product is great but if it won't charge, I cant use it on airplanes. Will try to find another brand without this problem...
