I have done the research and recently bought this portable Philips PET710/37 DVD and use it, here are some of the positive and negative features on the device:
POSITIVE NOTES:
HOUSING: It seems solid, aluminum case.
LCD: Clear, nice colour and sufficiently bright (the lettering display does not blur); able to adjust color, brightness, and toggle between widescreen and normal screen.
SOUND QUALITY: It has 2 modes stereo and not stereo. The device speakers stand alone are sufficiently hearable (250mW), but if it hooks up to a portable Midland speakers or your card speakers it would sound so much better.
MEDIA TYPE PLAYBACK: Able to play copy DVD and copy CD
OUTPUT CONNECTIONS: 2 individual headphones; 1 outlet for video output; and 1 coaxial audio output.
USER FRIENDLY: The device's able to handle car vibration without skipping, search mode of slow down and forwarding without losing sharpness of the picture. Easy to navigate.
NEGATIVE NOTES:
LCD: Not a true 16:9 widescreen because at the widescreen mode there are still top and bottom black bars exist. The 7" screen all ready a small display screen and with the top and bottom black bars this make the viewing section even smaller. LCD screen only able to rotate to 180 degrees.
NOISY: This device is noisy, especially when you fast forward to the next chapter or slow down then the len has to move which it makes a lot of noise when it do so.
REMOTE CONTROL: Useless, cannot get it to work from a long range.
DIVERSITY: NONE, NO video game input allow (A BIG NEGATIVE).
BATTERY: Battery life is LESS THAN 2.5 HOURS. The attached battery on the bottom of the device protruded outwardly from rear, this make the device cannot lay flat on a surface.
POWER SUPPLY: Power adapter only up 120V, which this mean that you cannot use the device oversea where it utilizes a 240V, without purchasing a power converter. (A BIG NEGATIVE).
OVERALL, If you looking for a portable DVD that has a sharp LCD display with speakers ouput that you can hear without plug in your headphone this would be an ideal device.
