Anyone looking seriously at the SDP-1500 should instead try to scrounge one of the remaining SDP-1000 models. While the SDP-1500 is as good as any 7" screen model out there, it is a big technology and image quality step behind the SDP-1000. Sure, the SDP-1000 lacks some buttons on the body of the player that should be there, and is only 5.8" display; but it has progressive scan and a video resolution matched only by true HDTV screens. My impression is that while the SDP-1000 was a technology tour de force, the SDP-1500 is a cost reduced, more usability oriented attempt to compete with the mass market based largely on screen size alone. The 5.8" and extremely crisp SDP-1000 is the high point of portable DVD players to date, and may remain unmatched for some time. The bottom line is image quality, and the small size brings added convenience as well.
