Quality Control Issues with this Product

20 Apr, 00:00
I ordered this DVD player on-line. Straight out of the box it has a dead pixel on the screen. I foolishly ignored the many reviewers who received this player brand new with a fault. Look through all the reviews at Amazon, there are a few (which is too many) complaining about technical problems straight out of the box. You might be lucky and get one without a fault but I think it cost too much money to take that risk.

Also one of the reviewers mentions that a digital camera can be connected up to this unit. I was disappointed to find that this is not so. At least I cannot see how it can be done. None of the accompanying cables or cables with my digital cameras facilitate connection. There is a 'video-in' port but the manual explains this is for connecting a video cassette machine. There are some portable dvd players with USB ports so get one of those if you want to be able to connect your digital camera directly.

Apart from the dead pixel it seems a very good product. I don't agree with the ravings about how good the screen is from all angles. There is a limit to how good any lcd screen can be. Like all lcd screens this one can feel quite dark at times.

Sound is very good.

Bottom line is you need to know when you purchase a product that you have more than a good chance of getting one that works properly straight out of the box when it arrives. You simply don't have that guarantee with this product... however good it is when it works properly.

A dead pixel probably will not be noticed if you are buying this for your kids, but if you are an adult then that tiny 'snowflake' on your screen can be quite distracting at times.

I did not heed the warnings of others. Now my own warning joins the others. I hope yours wont be joining us!

I normally give 5 star reviews. Not this time, because of quality control issues at Toshiba.
