I originally bought this unit for long flights. Along with AIWA Noise Cancelling headphones, it's perfect! Even sitting right next to the wing, with the overhead television playing, I could hear my movie very cleary. The picture is clear, and the unit is small enough to fit into my travel bag along with a few DVD's. I would, however, recommend buying a spare battery if you want to watch more than one movie before recharging the 3 hour battery it comes with. The spare battery has a 5-7 hour charge, and the price is reasonable. This unit really isn't meant to be used without the headphones, as the speakers do not project well, but it is definitely worth purchasing. I use it all the time!! Some other handy uses I have found are: 1) Relaxing in the backyard or on the patio; 2) When you want to stay up later than the rest of the household, but not bother them with the sound of the television. You can just relax in bed with this player. And listen the manual when it recommends that you not use this with the battery if it is also plugged in. You ruin the life of the battery, which I found out the hard way!!
